Doomstar!

Doomstar! is one of my favorite current Boston bands. The album Colors takes you on a surrealistic journey through space and beyond while still keeping you grounded enough to move your feet and hips. The rolling drum beats make me feel like I'm rolling through a field of amplifiers on summer grass. You'd have to hear it to understand, I guess.

Sunn O)))

This band is really amazing. Originally from Seattle, Washington, Sunn O))) is one of the loudest bands you can ever go see. Their music is categorized by some as drone, noise, stoner metal or doom metal. Songs usually include guitars tuned in drop a in a tempo that's slow moving and heavy, almost like your trudging on a very epic journey through the desert. Sunn O))) was created my Stephen O'Malley and Greg Anderson and is currently on SouthernLord records. The band uses SUNN amps to produce its unique sound.

Cannot Be Stopped

Farley Miller is a one man drum and synthesizer act that played at my house about a year ago. I stumbled upon his cd today and decided to give it a listen again. The cd itself is really well made, but I feel like it doesn't do him justice. In order to experience the full affect of Cannot Be Stopped you have to seem him live. Its a completely different experience. It is really overwhelming and amazing. I felt like I was being hit in the face with his music. Unfortunately he has moved out to Oakland, California away from his original place in Washington, DC. So if you live in California book a show with him. He's real rad. Farley describes himself as being influenced by Lightning Bolt, Duracell, Anamanaguchi, Chromelodeon, and HEALTH.

There is a nice interview with him in the DCist... here.

Here are some tracks you can listen to...

Woods Family Creeps

This is a band I have not been able to get off my mind for weeks.

The twisted and turning harmonies make it different than anything I've ever heard. I'd describe it as an antique, cassette tape sound quality folk, rock, psychedelic, experimental music. My favorite song is by far "Twisted Tongue," but I love the long instrumentals as well. The music is something that I can really fade off into. There's something about the singing that really gets me. The falsettos and harmonies are definitely sweet.

Here's a video of the song "End to End."
